iPhone

So Apple has released info on their upcoming iPhone. (Thanks for the heads up Rob!) It looks absolutely amazing except that it's only going to be available from Cingular so far and I think most of you know how I feel about Cingular. The good news: It runs on EDGE network and Wi-Fi and it will have a 6 or 8 gig hard drive so it may be possible to make phone calls using a download of Skype on a data plan from Cingular and then take a smaller voice plan. We'll see though. I signed up for emails from both Cingular and Apple for their upcoming announcements. From the Apple website, it looks like it could be a real winner!

Update: Battery life is very low with 5 hrs of talk/web/video time, but a decent 16 hours of audio.

Count me in on wanting the Apple iPhone! I watched a great clip of it in action this morning, and I was truly blown away by it. I'm not too surprised by the battery life though... most average cell phones only allow between 120-250 minutes of talk time (about 2-4 hours), keeping in mind that doesn't count the amount of time the device can be in stand-by mode where it essentially stays on, but does nothing until you press a key or an incoming signal wakes up the phone.

I Hate Cingular (fewest dropped calls my ass...only because one can never complete an outbound or receive an inbound call, at least in this neck of the market), but perhaps this is only the tip of the ice-burg, and we'll soon see the Apple iPhone on major carriers like Verizon. Otherwise, I might have to think of switching to the darkside when the Apple iPhones come out...providing any of us can afford them :)
